TED Talk a Day - Day 12: Let's Treat Violence Like a Contagious Disease by Gary Slutkin

I'll be honest, what first caught my eye was the guy's last name.  When i saw the title, though, i was intrigued.  Here are my notes from Gary Slutkin's TED talk, Let's Treat Violence Like a Contagious Disease:
  • Punishment is highly over-valued.  It is not a main driver of behavior change
  • On a map, violence and infectious disease reveal similar statistics
  • The greatest predictor of a case of violence is a preceding case of violence, as flu passes from one to another
  • Violence is a disease
  • How to Reverse an Epidemic
    • interrupt transmission
    • prevent future spread
    • shift the norms
  • You’re being criticized tremendously...you must be doing something right
  • Science replacing morality, and moving away from emotions as the most important part of the solution to science as a more important part of the solution
Enjoy the talk.
